For ambitious kids & teens
You don’t have to wait for a degree and a job.
Most people are taught one path: school, debt, then working for someone else. There’s another way — learn a real skill, then build your own thing. The Hustle teaches you how, free, through a game.

Real talk: how to raise your first money
Here’s the truth most people won’t tell you: when you’re just starting out with no income, no credit history, and nothing to put up as collateral, a bank or credit union almost certainly won’t lend you money — that’s just how lending works. So where does a brand-new founder actually get it?
🥾
1. Bootstrap (start here)
Fund it yourself from savings, allowance, or your first few sales. Start so small you barely need money. It’s the cheapest way and you keep 100% ownership.
🤝
2. The 3 F’s
Friends, Family & “Fools.” It’s the classic name for your first outside money — people who back you before the numbers prove anything. It’s real money and real relationships: agree out loud whether it’s a loan or a gift, put the terms in writing, and only take what you can pay back.
🏦
3. Banks come later
Once you have revenue, a track record, or collateral, that’s when banks and credit unions will lend. You earn access by building the history first — so let’s talk about where to build it. 👇

Trump Accounts ≠ free startup cash
If you have a
Trump Account, it’s locked until ~18, then it becomes IRA-like money. Pulling it early for a business usually means
income tax + often a 10% penalty — there is no special “founders exemption.” Smart path:
bootstrap the hustle, convert the account to a
Roth while your tax rate is low, and let it compound (full funding can illustrate multi‑millions by 65). Only raid it if you’ve proven demand and still need a small, deliberate amount.

Employers / parents reading this
Employers can contribute up to
$2,500/year per employee into a kid’s Trump Account (counts inside the
$5,000 annual room, usually tax-free to the worker). Pair the benefit with financial literacy so teens don’t treat it like a spending account.

Where to keep your money
Once you make your first dollar, you need a safe home for it — and it’s where you start building the track record that unlocks real lending later. For most young people, the best first stop isn’t a giant national bank.
🏦
Start with a small community bank or credit union
Community banks and credit unions are locally run — and credit unions are owned by their members, not outside shareholders. That usually means lower fees, smaller minimum balances, real people who know your area, and lending decisions made locally. When you’re opening a first account or asking for your first small business loan, that relationship can make all the difference.
